Is it July yet?

June has been very busy for us. Since schools completion, we've had Boy Scout Camp, a little tennis clinic, swim lessons and now Summer Kids Club (aka VBS). None are too terribly many extra hours, but added fun. I have to be honest though, I'm looking forward to a slow down in July. All we have planned is a short trip to Austin and our annual trip to South Padre for a few days.

Well, for those of you that do not know yet, I'm taking some time off from my job. Maybe two years, maybe longer. This occurred about mid-June (prayed for more than two years though), so I haven't really experienced much yet, short of getting to clean my own house. Yes, I've had a housekeeper for 7 years while Zachary has had therapy. Sweet! Nonetheless, with that slow down in July, will come the opportunity to focus on being a better mom and wife. I have been asked to teach the Financial Planning course they offer to the Juniors at Zachary's school. I'm very excited, and it will only be one class in the Spring semester. I'm looking forward to volunteering more at my church. And being ready to lead the Children's Program. Last year, BSF allowed me the privilege of being the Children's Supervisor. We opened a second level and this past year will open a third level for our students this year. I'm really hoping Zachary will get to go this year. He wants to go bad.

In a nutshell, that's what is happening with us. Eight weeks of summer left before school starts again. Let's see how much R&R we can get in, as well as added fun! Will keep you updated.

Not enough to do, so...

In the midst of Boy Scout camp, we came home to a little surprise. The Friday before camp (which ran Sunday-Friday), we had a our AC unit replaced. I was out of town, so thank you to my wonderful, sweet husband who handled it all. Needless to say, when we returned from a few errands, the attic was flooded and we had a few bubbles and drips in our ceiling. But again thanks to John's quick response, we had all replaced by Wednesday with very little inconvenience.
The finished product is not that exciting, and thank goodness nothing was damaged, short of the ceiling. Drat, an opportunity for wooden floors missed. Later, I guess.

Flowers

Zachary was out working with his therapist on Pedestrian Safety. They began a conversation about flowers. She asked him about picking flowers for his mom. He said, you only give flowers to your mom on Mother's Day. Her response: Oh no! Mother's need flowers any time and all the time. Thank Victoria for your quick wit and good guidance for the future. Here is what I received when I picked him up...And I love them and the little hands that picked them!

Star Wars

I've finally convinced Zachary Star Wars is cool! The boys at school like the Clone Wars, so I am challenged to align Zachary's likings with theirs. We've watched all the episodes, have bought more Lego sets than I can count, and DVR the Star Wars cartoon for watching in the mornings. The good thing is that Daddy is a Star Wars fan too, and so a regular ritual occurs at our house each evening....

The funniest thing is that Zachary is now labeling different people as the characters. My grandpa, Zachary's great-grandpa is Darth Maul. Maybe is it the bald head, but I'll be interested to hear if Zachary convinces Grandpa to Light Saber fight. Good Luck Grandpa!

Scout Camp as a Webelos

What a fun week we had, and I even enjoyed myself! I worked with two woman, who were as organized as me. Wooohoo! The boys did various activities from building a letter stand to sewing a change bag in Crafts. They learned about forestry, sportsmanship and made and did a puppet show in Skills. And of course had archery and BB guns. And the best part was Sports. They played Ultimate, Softball, and Kickball, and had two days of water gun wars! As you can see, Zachary had a good time.

He did ask me during the puppet play if I was going to watch and take pictures. That was a first, and you bet I was going too. :-)

Finally a Webelo

Officially June 1st, Zachary became a Webelo. He was very excited. They had a bridging ceremony where they got their new neckerchief. He looks so grown-up. I am proud of him, but wanted to cry all at the same time.

Bound to happen

This past weekend at my dad's, Zachary decided he was tired of waiting to get "short hair", so he took the liberty of cutting it himself. Off we headed to Granmommy's to fix it the best we could. The pictures don't do justice. He literally cut his front bangs around 1/2 to 3/4 an inch.

Check out the length he cut.

My attempt to spike it in the front

All I could do was laugh. I guess I won't wait so long next time to get his hair cut.
