Playing the xylophone at the game
I have to say, I was so proud of Zachary, I nearly cried. I never imagined he would enjoy playing the xylophone this much. Mr. Hernandez says he is picking it up very quickly. They finished football season and Mr. H said he could play with the secondary students for the Christmas performance. This is great for him since he doesn't have any exposure playing with others and limited exposure to playing in public. Oh, and he also got to play at the Homecoming pep rally. They marched around the school in a parade, and then played during the pep rally too. It was fantastic!!

Finish up and move on
Over the summer, we made a decision to finish up Boy Scouts and move on. We did not attend many meetings but did plan to go back and get the last of Zachary's Activity Pins and Super Achiever Award (earned once you earn all 20 Activity Pins).
These are not the greatest photos, but I wanted to share the moment. It was bitter sweet being the first Scout in his den to get all the awards despite their level of acceptance of him.
Here is the cool thing. As you know we participated in Swim team over the summer. Zachary has decided he wants to participate in swim team year-around. I was really hoping he would chose a sport of some sort as his "own", rather than by our direction. And swimming was his choice. I even told him practice was 3x a week, and to this point, he still is enjoying it and wants to attend practice. Although I will say, he complained the other day about the cold water. I'm so proud of him for finding interest in something on his own and sticking with it.

Spirit Week
It was homecoming week last week, so our school has Spirit Week, where everyone gets to dress up every day. We had fun this year, and Zachary actually looked forward to each day.
Maui Monday
College Day Tuesday
Western Wednesday
Throwback Thursday
School Spirit Day - it's hard to see, but he has blue hair
They had a parade and Pep Rally Friday afternoon where Zachary marched and played the xylophone. The teachers did a flash mob, which was totally fun! We had the homecoming game that night, where Zachary got to play as well. He is doing so great with his new instrument. I'll post on that next week.

What is in the refrigerator?
So you can imagine my suprise when I opened up the refrigerator....

We were done with electronics for the day, and I guess he started getting creative. Thank goodness he didn't cut his hand up. You should have seen how he was holding the orange. Didn't you learn anything in Boy Scouts!?! Any guesses on who this is?
If you guessed Mrs. Pac-man and her stork-delivered baby, you got it right!?! Thank you Mrs. Pac-man for helping my son believe storks deliver babies.

Holes
This summer, Zachary read a book called Holes. It was a very cute book, and we all watched the movie when we went to South Padre on vacation (one day I'll get that posted). Fortunately for us, his first book report was on a fiction book.
As part of the report, he also has to present the book, choosing from a list of options. He chose to dress up as his character. He needed to dress as the main character that was sent to a detention camp and had to dig holes every day as his punishment.

I don't expect the the boys at Camp Greenlake were smiling like Zachary, but you get the drift. He presented his report yesterday and his teacher said he did a great job!
